Camille es una bella profesora de teología en una universidad protestante de Toronto, y está comprometida con Martin, también teólogo, llevando ambos una ejemplar vida cristiana. Pero Camille no está del todo satisfecha con su vida, y cuando pierde a su mascota en un trágico accidente de coche Camille se siente devastada. En una lavandería, todavía deprimida, conoce a Petra, una joven que trabaja en un circo y de la que Camille se siente atraída, cambiando la visión convencional del mundo y del amor que tenía hasta ese momento.

Glenn Close won an Emmy for her portrayal of Margare the Cammermeyer in this 1995 made-for-television film. An army medical officer in line for a career promotion during the Bush Administration but suddenly facing discharge proceedings after admitting to being a lesbian, the real-life Cammermeyer became a focus of national attention on the issue of gays in the military. This sensitive production focuses on Cammermeyer's decision to fight institutional bigotry and the way her family and that of her long-time partner, Diane Divelbess (Judy Davis, who also won an Emmy), rally to support these good people. The script by Alison Cross captures the sad irony of doing everything right--serving one's country, taking care of the people in one's life--yet still being treated like a pariah for entirely irrational reasons.

A story of aliens, sex and death set against the bleak (yet strangely alluring) backdrop of late-night 80's downtown New York City. However, this is the darker side of the 'Wall Street' 80's: over-indulgence occurs out of boredom and disdain.

The plot revolves around a group of hipsters living on the edge of fashion, film and art. Aliens have somehow discovered that the life force they need is released in the human brain during orgasm (or heroin high) - and are thus attraced to this group. The life force is extracted, leaving the victims dead with a crystal prism lodged in their heads.

None of this feels sad or unfortunate, as the film encourages the viewer to give in to the languid pace of allowing things to happen which are beyond our control.

And there is so much more to the film than the mere plot. Highlights include punk attitudes, gothic costumes and uniquely gorgeous androgenous Anne Carlisle who plays an amazing double role: both the female diva lead and a disgruntled male hanger-on.

Poetic and macabre lines are delivered in a wonderfully nonchalant and nihilistic manner. The budget is low but the filming is stylish, and there are fantastic rooftop settings throughout which border on the abstract.

It won't cheer you up, but you will not easily forget this film.

Rose Troche's first film is a breezy, unrelentingly charming if flyweight study of female friendship and the usual relationship traumas. Guinevere Turner plays Max, an aspiring writer, (she's also the film's co-writer, and co-scripted the screenplay of the recent film American Psycho, in which she came under Christian Bale's knife). Max and her friends Ely, Kia and Daria spend a lot of time talking, cooking, and generally hanging out with that studied coolness that only people in independent movies can perfect. A tentative romance develops, and if not much else happens, at least it doesn't happen stylishly, in trendy black-and-white with snazzy dialogue. Most of all Go Fish deserves credit for barely deigning to engage with the fact that all its protagonists are gay, as if this were just another natural, everyday thing, like being left-handed or tall.
